Electromagnetic compatibility in railways: Part 3-2 rolling-stock apparatus, Part 4 trackside signalling and telecommunications, Part 5 fixed power-supply installations.
Parts declared by products:
The series covers electromagnetic emission and immunity in the railway system over the frequency range from DC to 400 GHz. Part 1 establishes assessment criteria and EMC management for the whole series. Part 3-2 covers electrical and electronic apparatus intended for installation on rolling stock, taking into account the environment inside the vehicle, the railway environment and portable radio transmitters; transient emissions occurring when apparatus is switched on and off are outside its scope.
Part 4 covers signalling and telecommunications apparatus installed in the railway environment (fixed infrastructure: zones within 3 m and 10 m of the track); onboard signalling equipment and apparatus in substations are outside Part 4. Part 5 covers apparatus and systems for fixed power-supply installations (substations, autotransformers, switchgear).
An EMC report to EN 50121-3-2 (rolling stock) or -4 (trackside signalling) directly corresponds to the electromagnetic environment of the installation location, including operation of the traction power system and portable radios; tests to general industrial EMC standards do not replace it.
Part 3-2 - apparatus installed on rolling stock; Part 4 - trackside signalling and telecommunications apparatus (3 m and 10 m zones); Part 5 - apparatus and systems for fixed power-supply installations (substations). Part 1 provides assessment criteria for the whole series.
The railway electromagnetic environment (traction power supply, portable radios) is defined in EN 50121; a report to EN 61000-6-2/-6-4 describes different levels and does not directly correspond to an installation location on a vehicle or trackside.
