The Airpax 217 series protects railway signalling and wayside signalling-device circuits. The IEG BX version with a flush handle reaches a rated interrupting capacity of up to 50,000 A. Variants include IAG without approvals, IUG with UL 1077, and IEG with UL 1077, CSA C22.2-235, TÜV IEC 60947-2, CCC and CE.
Current ratings are 0.02–50 A for DC and 50/60 Hz, and 0.02–30 A at 400 Hz, with voltages of 80 V DC and 240 V AC. The trip-free mechanism trips even if the operator holds the handle in the ON position. The characteristic remains stable from −40 to +85 °C without derating.
The housing material used in production of this family-a glass-fibre-reinforced polyester composite designated 610-P610B01-meets R22 and R23 requirements from Table 5 of EN 45545-2:2013+A1:2015 for hazard levels HL1, HL2 and HL3. Test results: oxygen index >80.0%, Ds max 41, CIT(NLP) 0.05 [Warringtonfire summary report no. 522701 dated 12.09.2022, based on reports 518051, 518056 and 518062]. The assessment applies to the material itself in the tested form; compliance of the complete apparatus is confirmed by the manufacturer for the specific version.
