What the standard covers

Part 1 covers elementary electromechanical relays (all-or-nothing, non-specified-time relays) intended for incorporation into low-voltage equipment (circuits up to 1000 V AC or 1500 V DC) used in industry, machinery, household appliances, IT, building automation, medical equipment, telecommunications and transport; it specifies general and safety requirements.

Part 3 gives particular requirements and tests for relays with forcibly guided (mechanically linked) contacts, supplementing Part 1; it excludes control-circuit devices according to IEC 60947-5-1 and contacts without mechanical linkage. Part 3 replaced EN 50205:2002.

What this means for selection

IEC 61810-1 defines the switching parameters and insulation of the relay as a component; 61810-3 confirms forced mechanical guidance of contacts, enabling relay-state monitoring in safety and signalling circuits.
