What the standard covers

The standard specified particular requirements and tests for elementary relays with forcibly guided (mechanically linked) contacts, supplementing EN 61810-1, EN 61810-5, EN 116000-3 and EN 60255-23. It did not cover electromechanical control-circuit devices according to IEC/EN 60947-5-1. Its content was transferred to IEC/EN 61810-3:2015.

What this means for selection

Forcibly guided contacts ensure that if a normally-open contact welds, the normally-closed contact cannot close, enabling relay-state diagnostics in safety circuits; new documentation should reference EN 61810-3.
