Sensata/BEI DSK5H and DSM5H incremental safety encoders are 58 mm functional-safety encoders certified to SIL3 and Category 4 / PLe according to IEC 61508 and EN ISO 13849, intended for safe drive feedback according to IEC 61800-5-2. DSK5H has a blind hollow shaft (9.52–14 mm), while DSM5H has a solid shaft (6 / 9.52 / 10 mm); the DSM5X version is available in an AISI 316 stainless-steel housing with IP68/69K protection. Resolution is up to 2500 pulses per revolution, with TTL/RS422, HTL or 1 Vpp sine/cosine digital outputs-compatible with existing encoders when migrating to a higher safety level. Supply is 5 V DC or 11–30 V DC. The body is aluminium, the cover is coated zinc alloy, the shaft is AISI 303 stainless steel and the bearings are sealed; continuous speed is 6000 rpm, temporarily 9000 rpm, with service life >24×10⁹ revolutions. Shaft load is 20/40 N for DSK5H and 40/80 N for DSM5H (axial/radial), mass approx. 0.3 kg. Protection is IP65, operating temperature −20 to +85 °C, with high shock and vibration resistance. The encoders are intended for safe speed and position measurement in machine and vehicle drives requiring safety functions.
