Test methods and conditions

Standards describing the test method: what they simulate, how the test is performed, and which severity levels they offer. A test result is not a declaration of product conformity - the severity level is selected by the product standard or the specification.

Electromagnetic immunity

EMC immunity - test methods for electrostatic discharge, RF fields, burst, surge and conducted disturbances (61000-4-2…-6).

Electrostatic-discharge (ESD) immunity - levels 2–8 kV contact and 2–15 kV air.

Immunity to radiated RF electromagnetic fields - levels 1–30 V/m from 80 MHz.

Immunity to electrical fast transients (burst) - 5/50 ns pulses, levels 0.25–4 kV.

Surge immunity - 1.2/50 µs voltage and 8/20 µs current combination wave, levels 0.5–4 kV.

Immunity to conducted disturbances induced by RF fields - 150 kHz–80 MHz, levels 1–10 V.

Environmental and mechanical testing

Environmental testing - climatic and mechanical test methods: cold, heat, humidity, vibration, shock, salt mist and gas corrosion.

Cold testing (Test A) - operation, transport and storage at low temperature.

Salt mist (Test Ka) - resistance of coatings and materials to corrosion in salt aerosol.

Dry heat testing (Test B) - operation at high temperature and low humidity.

Mechanical shock (Test Ea) - half-sine, final-peak saw-tooth and trapezoidal pulses.

Damp heat, cyclic (Test Db) - condensation during daily temperature changes.

Composite temperature/humidity cyclic test with cold phase (Test Z/AD) - accelerated component testing.

Sinusoidal vibration (Test Fc) - mechanical endurance and resonance search.

Corrosion in a flowing mixed-gas atmosphere (Test Ke) - contacts and connections in polluted air.

Hammer tests (Test Eh) - enclosure impact resistance from 0.14 to 50 J; basis of the IK code.

Damp heat, steady state (Test Cab) - long-term humidity without condensation.

Airborne corrosivity classification G1–GX for measurement and control equipment (Cu/Ag coupons).

Flammability and toxicity
