Railway applications - rolling stock; protective provisions against electrical hazards.
The standard gives rules applied in the design and manufacture of electrical installations and equipment on rolling stock to protect persons against electric shock (protection against direct and indirect contact, earthing and equipotential bonding).
Protection in fixed installations is governed by the EN 50122 series.
A component assessed to EN 50153 (e.g. a measuring resistor in a vehicle high-voltage circuit) has defined protective measures against electric shock required for vehicle authorisation; the designer does not need to demonstrate them separately.
