Safety of industrial control equipment and its peripherals - US edition of IEC 61010-2-201.
The standard specifies safety requirements and verification tests for control equipment and its peripherals operating in industrial environments, in open and enclosed versions. The scope includes programmable controllers (PLC and PAC), distributed control systems (DCS), industrial computers and panel PCs, programming and debugging tools (PADT), displays and human-machine interfaces (HMI), and positioners.
As constituent parts of such equipment, the standard also covers stand-alone auxiliary power supplies, digital and analog input/output modules, remote I/O and industrial network devices (switches, routers, base stations).
Equipment covered by the standard is intended for overvoltage category II according to IEC 60664-1, in low-voltage installations with supply voltages up to 1000 V AC (50/60 Hz) or 1000 V DC. For equipment intended for category III and IV installations, additional requirements are specified in Annex K.
The standard is used together with UL 61010-1, 3rd edition - throughout the text, references to IEC 61010-1:2010 and AMD1:2016 are replaced by UL 61010-1.
A UL 61010-2-201 statement in a power-supply or control-module datasheet means testing according to the US edition of IEC 61010-2-201; certification is issued together with UL 61010-1. For a product placed on the European market, separately check the declaration to IEC/EN 61010-2-201 - it is a separate document.
