What the standard covers

The standard specified safety requirements for mains- or battery-powered information technology equipment, including electrical business equipment and associated equipment. Since 2020-12-20 in the EU it no longer provides presumption of conformity with the LVD/RED; its role has been taken over by EN IEC 62368-1 (audio/video and ICT equipment).

In new data sheets for power supplies and SSRs it appears only as a historical test basis.

What this means for selection

An EN 60950-1 declaration in a data sheet means testing to a withdrawn standard; for new projects, the designer should require confirmation to EN IEC 62368-1 or another current product-safety standard.
