Mechanical structures for electronic equipment - climatic and mechanical testing of cabinets and racks.
The standard specifies environmental requirements, test setups and safety aspects for empty mechanical structures - cabinets, racks, subracks, chassis enclosures and associated plug-in units - from the IEC 60917 and IEC 60297 series, for indoor use and transport conditions.
It introduces performance classes and dummy loads that simulate stresses during manufacturing, storage, transport and operation. The standard covers indoor conditions only; outdoor enclosures are covered by the IEC 61969 series.
The class according to IEC 61587-1 indicates the static and dynamic loads and climatic conditions that an empty 19-inch cabinet or subrack has withstood in type testing - a starting point before railway testing according to EN 61373 for the equipped installation.
