What the standard covers

The standard gives methods for assessing electronic and electrical equipment for which no product standard concerning EM fields exists, against restrictions on human exposure to electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields and induced and contact currents over the range 0 Hz–300 GHz.

It covers intentional and unintentional radiators and both general-public and occupational exposure. The standard does not set exposure limits - it refers to regional limits.

What this means for selection

An assessment to EN IEC 62311 demonstrates that an inductive or USB charger in a passenger area remains within EM-field exposure limits - a requirement when assessing conformity with the RED/LVD for interior equipment.
