Part 11 specifies general requirements, tests and test conditions for AC and DC electricity meters in networks up to 1000 V AC or 1500 V DC, for indoor and outdoor installation, with integrated or separate displays; it excludes portable and vehicle meters, laboratory and reference meters, data interfaces, sockets and fraud-detection measures.
Part 31 gives product-safety requirements for meters (in the 2024 edition up to 1000 V AC / 1500 V DC, previously up to 600 V AC), including meters with auxiliary circuits. Metrological requirements for individual meter types are contained in the IEC 62053 series.
Compliance of an energy analyser with IEC 62052-11 and -31 confirms the test conditions (climate, EMC) and product safety required for energy measurement in substations and trackside facilities.
