What the standard covers

The standard specified a current-loop pulse interface for transferring pulses from an electricity meter with a pulse output to a tariff device - commonly known as the S0 interface. The document was three pages long and has been withdrawn; its subject matter was taken over by the European DIN EN 62053-31 (IEC 62053-31) for pulse-output devices of electricity meters.

The standard applied only to the interface; energy measurement itself was outside its scope.

What this means for selection

A pulse output compliant with DIN 43864 / IEC 62053-31 (S0) allows a meter or measuring instrument to be connected to a pulse-counting controller without signal conversion.
