Switches for appliances.
The standard applies to switches for controlling electrical appliances and other equipment for household and similar purposes, with rated voltage up to 480 V and rated current up to 63 A, including AC and DC switches and isolating and non-isolating switches.
It specifies constructional requirements, functional, safety and environmental tests, and marking. Parts 2-x of the series give particular requirements for individual switch types.
A toggle switch tested to IEC 61058-1 has confirmed switching endurance and dielectric strength in the switches-for-appliances category - data sufficient for installation in a desk or panel without referring to IEC 60947-5-1.
