What the standard covers

The UL 248 series covers low-voltage fuses up to 1000 V AC and/or DC with interrupting ratings up to 300 kA (200 kA for Mexico) for use under the electrical codes of the United States, Canada and Mexico. Part 1 specifies general requirements (construction, operating conditions, markings and tests), while subsequent parts (through Part 21) specify requirements for individual fuse classes (G, H, K, L, T, CF, CD and others).

Part 13 covers fuses for semiconductor protection rated up to 2000 V AC (DC ratings are optional) and is read together with Part 1, whose requirements apply unless modified by Part 13.

What this means for selection

A declaration to UL 248-1/248-13 enables a fuse-link to be used in equipment intended for the North American market (NEC/CEC) and states parameters determined according to UL methodology, which differs from IEC 60269 in fuse classes, interrupting ratings and test methods.
