CSA Group certification mark - type testing and factory surveillance; C and US indicators define the market.
The CSA mark on a product means it has been tested to the applicable North American standards (CSA, ANSI, UL, NSF and others) and meets certification requirements for electrical, gas, plumbing or mechanical products.
Indicators next to the mark define the market: a mark without indicators refers to Canadian standards, “US” to US standards, and “C” and “US” together to both markets. The mark is accepted by authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) in Canada and the USA on the same basis as marks of other NRTLs.
The mark demonstrates type testing to the stated standard, an initial assessment of the manufacturing facility and surveillance through periodic factory inspections. A CSA mark with only the “C” indicator or without an indicator does not demonstrate compliance with US standards; scope is determined by the Certificate of Compliance and the standards listed in it.
The process includes application, product testing and evaluation with resolution of nonconformities, initial factory assessment, review of drawings, intended use, construction and test results, reporting, issuance of a Certificate of Compliance and follow-up surveillance and factory audits.
The certificate authorizes the manufacturer to use the mark with the appropriate market indicators. Certified products are published in the CSA Group Product Listing.
Check which indicators appear with the mark (C, US or both) and under which certificate number (Master Contract / Certificate of Compliance) the product appears in the CSA Group Product Listing, together with product class and standard.
