CSA Component Acceptance mark - counterpart to UL Recognized for the Canadian market.
The Component Acceptance Service covers components and subassemblies that have no independent use on their own and form part of a complete product. CSA evaluates them within a limited scope and accepts them only for use in electrical and electronic equipment in which CSA determines the suitability of the combination during end-product certification.
It is the counterpart to the UL Recognized Component mark.
The mark demonstrates that the component meets the specified standards within the component-evaluation scope and is subject to CSA surveillance. It does not demonstrate that the component is a complete product suitable for stand-alone use; suitability for a specific installation is assessed during end-product certification.
CSA tests the component under standards applicable to the relevant Component Acceptance Service (numbered CAS documents, e.g. No. 56) and issues a report with conditions of use. The Component Acceptance Mark consists of the CSA mark with an adjacent solid-triangle indicator and standard designations; it occurs in three variants: Canadian standards (without C/US indicators), US standards (US indicator) and both markets (C and US indicators).
Production surveillance follows the same approach as for other CSA-certified products.
Check whether the CSA mark carries a triangle indicator (component) or is a full certification mark, and what conditions of use are given in the CSA report; verify the certificate number in the CSA Group Product Listing.
