The standard specifies mechanical requirements for conduction-cooled 3U and 6U VPX plug-in modules (heat is transferred through the module frame to chassis guides/walls), ensuring module interchangeability and compatibility with Two Level Maintenance under REDI (ANSI/VITA 48.0).
The 2022 edition adds 100 mm depth configurations and pitch options in 0.2-inch increments (1.0/0.85/0.8 inch, etc.).
Card-Lok/Wedge-Lok retainers selected for a VITA 48.2 module provide a defined clamping force between the module edge and guide, which determines the thermal resistance of the heat-removal path - this follows directly from the standard’s conduction-cooling function.
