High-voltage fuses - current-limiting fuse-links and expulsion fuses.
Part 1 applies to all types of high-voltage current-limiting fuses, indoor and outdoor, in 50/60 Hz AC systems with rated voltage above 1000 V; the 2020 edition added requirements for thermally operated strikers, separated common parameters from application-specific parameters and clarified operation above 40 °C ambient temperature.
Part 2 covers expulsion fuses above 1000 V (the 2008 edition removed Class C and aligned TRV with IEC 62271-100). IEC 60644 applies to HV fuse-links for direct-on-line (DOL) motor circuits in 50/60 Hz systems - it standardises time-current characteristics and withstand to starting pulses; fuse-links according to IEC 60644 are required to comply with IEC 60282-1.
Compliance of a 3.6–12 kV fuse-link with striker to IEC 60282-1:2020 confirms breaking-capacity tests above 1000 V and operation of the thermal striker - data needed for coordination with a switch-disconnector in an MV switchboard of a traction or non-traction substation.
