What the standard covers

The DIN 6701 series covered adhesive bonding and sealing of joined parts in the manufacture and repair of rail vehicles and their components: Part 2 specified qualification requirements for companies performing bonded joints, Part 3 provided guidelines for the design and verification of the load-bearing capacity of bonded joints, and Part 4 covered production and quality assurance.

Since 2022 this subject has been governed by EN 17460; since September 2025, company certification has been carried out exclusively in accordance with EN 17460. Applies to rolling stock.

What this means for selection

A bonded joint (e.g. a carbon strip bonded to its carrier) made by a company certified to DIN 6701-2 / EN 17460 has a documented bonding process required by vehicle integrators; DIN 6701 certificates after September 2025 must be renewed in accordance with EN 17460.
