What the standard covers

IEEE 1101.1 specifies basic dimensions and tolerances for modular subracks, plug-in units, printed boards and backplanes for microcomputers using IEC 60603-2 connectors, compatible with the 482.6 mm system (IEC 60297, EIA 310-D).

IEEE 1101.10 adds dimensions ensuring interchangeability of subracks and modules in this system (the mechanical basis for VME64x). IEEE 1101.11 specifies rear plug-in units that work with front modules according to 1101.1/1101.10. All three are mechanical (dimensional) standards.

What this means for selection

Compliance of subracks and modules with IEEE 1101.1/1101.10/1101.11 ensures mechanical interchangeability of front and rear modules in VME64x-type systems used in onboard computers; the designer should be aware that 1101.1 is no longer maintained by IEEE.
