Mechanical structures for electronic equipment - testing of cabinets, racks and 19-inch subracks.
The series specifies tests for empty mechanical structures (cabinets, racks, subracks and chassis) built according to IEC 60917 and IEC 60297 (including 19-inch systems). Part 1 defines environmental requirements, test setups, performance levels and safety aspects for manufacturing, storage, transport and indoor use, using dummy loads.
Part 2 covers seismic testing of cabinets and racks (single-axis or three-axis excitation; structures with seismic isolation are excluded). Part 3 tests the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of empty cabinets and subracks in the 30–3000 MHz range.
Performance levels according to IEC 61587-1 (load capacity, stiffness, resistance to vibration and transport shock) allow subracks from different manufacturers to be compared on the same basis; Part 3 provides measured shielding effectiveness of the empty enclosure.
