Joslyn Clark VC (USAVAC) series vacuum contactors are low- and medium-voltage contactors rated 200–3600 V for motors from 50 to 3700 hp, with the smallest footprint among 3.6 kV contactors. Modular construction allows tool-free installation and removal and includes a removable control module (coil and auxiliary contacts); a 1500 V reversing version is available.
Rated voltage 1500 V / 3600 V; rated current 160 / 320 / 600 A; making current = breaking current 1600 / 3200 / 6000 A; breaking capacity 4400 / 5000 / 6000 A (4000 A at 3600 V). Dielectric withstand 10,100 V (1 min), BIL - basic impulse insulation level - 45 kV (3600 V model). Mechanical/electrical life 2 million/1 million cycles; operating frequency 600 operations/h; temperature −40 to +50 °C; weight 7.71 kg (160/320 A) and 15.88 kg (600 A). Railway applications: stationary medium-voltage distribution and motor switching in rolling-stock maintenance facilities (depots, workshops), tunnel ventilation, pumping stations and tunnel-boring machine power supplies.
